Learning objectives:

This programme aims to arouse students' motivation and interest in learning through three areas, which are knowledge, skills, and attitudes. For knowledge, students will learn the nature classification and concepts related to biodiversity. Field activities allow students to get exposure to and conduct inquiry-based learning activities in nature, which can strengthen their learning effectiveness. Through sensory exploration activities, students can gain a deeper understanding of different creatures' lifestyles and living environments. Meanwhile, it helps to develop students' generic skills and positive values, such as self-management skills, communication skills, collaboration skills, and positive attitudes of caring for nature. Ultimately, students are encouraged to pay more attention to the animals and plants around them outside the classroom and to establish the values and attitudes of caring for the creatures around them from an early age.

Relevance to curriculum:

In accordance with General Studies Curriculum Guide for Primary Schools (Primary 1 – Primary 6)

Related Chapter: Strand 2: People and Environment (KS1)

Type of field activity:

Inquiry-based Learning: "Learn from Fallen Leaves", "Our Wildlife Friends", "Meet the Dragonfly"

During the outdoor learning progress, teachers can encourage students to use their senses of eyes, ears, nose and touch to explore the surrounding environment, and pay close attention to the visible living things in the field site, so as to cultivate students' curiosity and interest in nature. Through hands-on field activities, students are able to understand the concept of biological "diversity". Furthermore, the Lions Nature Education Centre provides abundant nature education materials that are ideal for teachers to conduct outdoor learning with students, and to identify wild animals and plants, thereby reinforcing concepts related to the classification of animals. It is hoped that students will be able to develop an attitude of caring for animals, plants and the surrounding environment.
