The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and the Orienteering Association of Hong Kong, China jointly organise the World Orienteering Day Carnival.  Various orienteering activities, including sprint orienteering course, orientation maze and string orienteering, and game booths promoting “Hiking Etiquette” are set up for you to experience the exciting sport and have fun in nature. Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. Participants will visit a series of control points marked on a detailed orienteering map, making it a great way to experience and enjoy nature. 

The public is welcome to join the carnival and have a taste of orienteering fun in the country park.

Date:

Date: 18 – 19 May 2024 (Saturday and Sunday)
Time: 10:00 – 16:00
Venue: Lions Nature Education Centre, Sai Kung

 

Note:

  1. Activities for both carnival days are the same; pre-registration is not required.
  2. The event will be cancelled without prior notice if Thunderstorm Warning, any Rainstorm Warning or Tropical Cyclone Warning is hoisted at 7 a.m. on the activity day.  Visit this website or Hong Kong Country Parks Facebook Page for update of the activities.

Orienteering activities:

1.    Sprint orienteering course
Find out all the control points of the special carnival courses inside Lions Nature Education Centre.  All ages and technical levels are suitable for this activity.  Compasses may be borrowed if required.

2.    Orientation maze
Navigate in the intricate maze, punch at the correct control points and find your way out at your quickest time.  All ages and technical levels are suitable for this activity. 

A mini maze is specially designed for children aged 8 or under to complete by themselves.

3.    String Orienteering
A simple and fun way to introduce orienteering and nature to children!  Guided by a string, going along the terrain to complete the activity.

4.    Coach Corner – Tips from Hong Kong Team
A great opportunity to learn or improve orientation skills with the Hong Kong orienteering elites!  Feel free to ask them for experience sharing and advice.
